Objective

The course is designed to enable the participants to understand and know the various practical aspects of essential oil industry including nursery raising, cultivation of aromatic plants, FDU operation, distillation, value addition & quality assessment of fragrant raw materials and blending of fragrant raw materials. This programme will focus on practical aspects related to all activities of aroma industry

Course Content

• Identification of aromatic plants at Herbal Garden and mother block
• Preparation of field for aromatic plant cultivation
• Demonstration of Nursery raising Techniques
• Demonstration of running of Filed Distillation Unit
• Demonstration of distillation of Essential oils from grasses by FDU
• Application of Bio-waste after distillation as fuel and other products
•  Demonstration of extraction by steam distillation unit
• Demonstration of extraction by Solvent extraction unit
• Demonstration of fractionation and reaction unit at Lab/Pilot scale
• Value addition Techniques of Essential Oils.
• Fundamentals of processing of aroma chemicals. Practical demonstration of processing of –
• Formates / acetates      b)         Citronellal / Nitrile

• Quality assessment of essential oils, aroma chemical using Physico-chemical and instrumental analysis using GLC, Refractometer, Polarimeter etc.
• Classification & differentiation of odours, memorization & recognition of odours.
• Blending of Fragrant raw materials
• Blends in different uses
• Field visits of essential oils and attar manufacturing industries
